Historical Heritage

• The first Abbey of Cister in Portugal – S. João de Tarouca – is dated from 1140. A rare example of Romanesque-gothic transition that preserves a lot of the original architecture;
• Salzedas Monastery: abbey of Cister of the 12th century built by D. Teresa, wife of Egas Moniz;
• Fortified bridge of Ucanha: unique example in the country
• Ferreirim Convent;
• Visigoth Church of Balsemão;
• Cathedral and Castle, Museum, Our Lady of Remédios Shrine in Lamego.
